  • A refrigerator is the most common and efficient method for preserving food and medicine, although its continuous operation consumes a considerable amount of energy. Thus, this study investigated and evaluated the overall performance of a household refrigerator with phase change materials (PCMs) and nanoparticles. The PCMs are applied to the evaporator (evaporator cold storage, ECS) and condenser (condenser heat storage, CHS) individually and simultaneously. Also, a refrigerator with dual energy storage (DES) and combined energy storage (CES) is proposed. The former included CHS and ECS and the latter involved CHS, ECS, and PCM panels in the fridge cabinet. PCMs were organic paraffins, inorganic salt hydrates, and distilled water. The energy consumption of refrigerators is assessed using ISO standards. Isobutane (R600a) was a refrigerant in the system. The experiments included the application of multiple PCMs to the condenser and evaporators. PCM with copper oxide (CuO) nanoparticles is tested on the condenser alone. As a result, through extensive analysis and testing, the overall performance of the refrigerator was optimized. The CHS effectively improved the coefficient of performance (COP) and kept the temperature of the cabinets, while the ECS efficiently saved energy and reduced temperature fluctuation within the cabinets. The most significant optimizations were by DES and CES due to the combination of cons and pros of using PCMs on the condenser, evaporator, and fridge cabinet individually. The energy savings for CHS cases, ECS cases, DES, and CES were 10.87-21.24%, 15.21-23.47%, 24.29%, and 26.42%, respectively. The COP improvements for CHS tests, ECS tests, DES, and CES were 1.58-7.56%, 4.35-5.50%, 8.81%, and 9.10%, respectively. Although their temperatures increased, the fluctuation temperature in the fridge and freezer cabinets dropped by 15.53-56.53% and 0.61-26.46%, respectively.

Erbil Polytechnic University and Westga (Station) Institution for Administration and Education of Iraqi and Kurdistan Youth signed a Memorandum of Understanding

On Monday, the 19th of June, 2023, Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhamad Tahir Harki, the Rector of the University of Iraq, received Mr. Fadi George Zebari, Community Coordinator of The Station Institution for the Employment and Education of Iraqi and Kurdistan Youth Initiative.

In the meeting, the Asst. Prof. Dr. Nageb Toma Bato, the Vice Rector for Scientific Affairs and Higher Education, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ranj Sirwan Abdullah, the Director of the International Relations Office and Mr. Kovan Omar, the Director of Career Development Center at the Presidency of our university were present.

Both parties signed a memorandum of understanding which includes working together to open several courses to empower youth and train students and graduates of our university and familiarize them with the labor market and entrepreneurship and Supporting those with innovative ideas and independent business ideas.

In this context, a project was announced that consists of several phases and the first phase that is under completion was to provide Training of Trainers (TOT) to prepare several competent trainers in the field of entrepreneurship and idea design, to train students in the second phase Within our university.

It is worth mentioning that the project is funded by the German Agency for the International Cooperation (GIZ) as a representative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), sponsored by Korek Telecommunication Company, and implemented by Al-Mahata (Station) Institution.

The Station Institution was first established in 2018 as an independent, non-governmental, non-profit organization that assists young people with fresh and innovative ideas to get a foothold in the world of business

and the private sector. Overall, the institution programs are designed to enhance community skills, have a major impact on the community and ensure the next generation is equipped with the necessary skills to take their projects into the future.

Erbil Polytechnic University And SPARK  International Organization Arrange A Three-day Workshop

On Wednesday, the 14th of June, 2023, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhamad Tahir Harki, the Rector of the Erbil Polytechnic University, Asst. Prof. Dr. Nageb Toma Bato, the Vice Rector for Scientific Affairs and Higher Education, and the Career Development Center Director organized a three-day workshop entitled (Innovation Hub Lab) for a number of students.

The workshop is implemented by the Doink Business Consultancy, funded by the Spark International Organization and delivered by seven students from our university who have become trainers in the past. The participants of the workshop are 30 students who will be trained on how to solve problems of both companies (Kesk and Emomegifts).

At the beginning of the workshop, the Rector delivered a short speech in which he congratulated the organizers and supervisors of the workshop and said: Such workshops and courses are of special importance for students, we will fully support them and continue the strategic program we have developed to promote and improve the level of students. I would also like to thank Spark and DOINK for coordinating with our university for arranging this workshop.

This workshop is an opportunity for students to develop skills and introduce them to the labor market, and how to solve the problems faced by companies, strengthen communication skills, and self-confidence.

It is worth mentioning that this workshop is a challenge between the Erbil Polytechnic University, the Mosul University, and the Northern Technical University.
