A lecturer from our university participated in an American international webinar about education and job opportunities for refugees.

As part of opening our university to international academic centers and actively participating in current issues, Dr. Salar Osman Ali, a lecturer at the Erbil Technical Administrative College, participated as a guest speaker in an international webinar organized by the journal (PLAIO) at Empire State University in the USA. The main topic of the webinar was discussing policies and practical approaches to the assessment of Prior Learning (PLA) as a gateway to providing education and job opportunities for refugees in the countries where they lived.

During the panel, Dr. Salar presented a joint research paper with Professor Rudolf Duvicott from NCOI University in the Netherlands. They highlighted the importance of the “Human Resource Management” program as an alternative to formal education for refugees. This topic was an important part of the CAMPLUS project, which was supported by the Erasmus Program of the European Union (2021–2024). They also emphasized the role of universities in developing refugees’ skills through training courses.

 

It is worth mentioning that our university always gave special attention to such scientific and international activities as part of its strategy. The university continuously supported and cooperated with its lecturers and researchers to deliver the academic voice of the university to international platforms.

Erbil Polytechnic University and Al-Furat Al-Awsat University prepared for their joint scientific conference

On Sunday, 8 February 2026, within the framework of strengthening academic relations, a high-level delegation from Al-Furat Al-Awsat University visited Erbil Polytechnic University.

The delegation was warmly received by Prof. Dr. Azad Hassan Qadir, Assistant Rector for Administrative and Financial Affairs; Asst. Prof. Dr. Botan Majid Asnagar, Assistant Rector for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies; a number of members of the University Council; and Asst. Prof. Dr. Karwan Wesman Qadir, Director of the Scientific Journals Department.

 

The main focus of the meeting was discussing and setting appropriate mechanisms for organizing a joint scientific conference between the two universities.

It was decided that the conference would be held on 14–15 April 2026 at Erbil Polytechnic University. During the meeting, scientific, administrative, and financial aspects were discussed in detail, and the necessary preparations were reviewed to ensure that the conference was held at a high academic level.

 

It is worth mentioning that Erbil Polytechnic University always adopted, as a fixed strategy, strong support and encouragement for such scientific activities.

The university remained open to all forms of academic cooperation, with the aim of advancing the level of research and science in the Kurdistan Region and strengthening academic ties with other universities.

A student from Erbil Polytechnic University participated in a scientific conference in the UAE

As part of the scientific delegations of our university and its openness to international universities, the research of a student from Erbil Polytechnic University was approved by (Al Ain University in the UAE. The student participated in the Second Student Conference and the Annual Meeting of the Association of Student Affairs Directors at Arab Universities, which was held from January 25 to 29, 2026, at Al Ain University.

During the conference, under the supervision of Dr. Rifaa Rashid from the Civil Engineering Department at the Technical Engineering College, the student Sana Abdullah Saeed successfully presented her research online at a high level. Due to the importance of the topic and the quality of the presentation, special certificates were awarded to the student and her supervisor.

In addition, Ms. Derakhshan Omar Mohammed, a staff member of the International Relations Directorate and the university’s coordinator with Arab universities, participated in the conference and the annual meeting as the university’s representative, which was held on the same day.

This achievement reflected the important strategy of Erbil Polytechnic University, which continuously supported and encouraged the abilities of students and lecturers. The university continued to support high-level research and provided all necessary facilities to ensure that the new generation played an effective role at regional and international levels and enhanced the university’s academic standing.

Erbil Polytechnic University strengthened the bridge between students and the labor market.

  On Wednesday, 28/1/2026, at the Presidency Office of the University, Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhammad Taher Harki, Rector of Erbil Polytechnic University, with the presence of Asst. Prof. Dr. Hataw Karim Khidr, Director of the University Career Development Center; Asst. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Omer Yasin, Director of International Relations; and Mr. Behzad Hilmi Akreyi, Director of the Rector’s Office, received a delegation from the two companies “Khanzada Khatun” and ’’Americana Restaurants Group’’.

 Americana Restaurants Group was considered one of the largest international companies in the food and restaurant sector, operating in the Middle East and South Africa, and included major restaurant brands such as KFC, Pizza Hut, Hardee’s, and Krispy Kreme.

 

During the meeting, which was organized through the coordination and initiative of the University Career Development Center, discussions focused on establishing a strong partnership between the university and the private sector. The main objective of the meeting was to provide internship and training opportunities and to benefit from the experiences and programs of those companies for university students, especially students of the tourism and management departments, in order to strengthen the link between the university and the labor market and to familiarize graduates with the real work environment.

During the meeting, views were exchanged regarding the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two sides so that the cooperation would take a formal framework. It was noted that the university presidency consistently placed special importance on such collaborations as part of its strategy and continuously supported and encouraged initiatives that expanded employment prospects for students and aligned their skills with the needs of the labor market.
