Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Edrees Mohammed Tahir Herki, Rector Erbil Polytechnic University, and on the occasion of International Mother’s Day and the anniversary of the founding of Soran Technical College, several activities were organized by the students of the Department of Women and Maternity. The Dean of Soran Technical College, assist. Prof.dr . Sirwan Latif Haji, and the assistant dean and members of the council attended the event.The dean gave a speech to congratulate the teachers and students of the department and wished them success, describing their work as a noble profession in service of mothers and children.
Later, Dr. Nergiz Ahmad Mohammed presented a speech about International Mother’s Day.The event was organized and led by the Head of the Women and Maternity Department, Mr. Azad Hussein, along with the students of the department, to honor this global day.
On Monday, May 5, 2025, under the supervision of Dr. Edrees Mohammed Tahir Herki, Rector of Erbil Polytechnic University, and with the attendance of Dr. Talib Mohammed Sharif Omar, Dean of the Technical Institute of Mergasor, and Mr. Najib Touma Bato, Director of Quality Assurance at Erbil Polytechnic University, an international workshop in the field of medical herbalism was held for a number of lecturers and students from the Department of Medical Herbalism at the Technical Institute of Mergasor.
At the beginning of the workshop, Dr. Talib Mohammed Sharif Omar, Dean of the Technical Institute of Mergasor, delivered a speech in English, welcoming the experts and specialists in the field. He emphasized the importance of this workshop in advancing the Department of Medical Herbalism and increasing attention and familiarity with this field. The dean also highlighted that this workshop was not only a gathering of experts, specialists, and researchers but also a step toward mutual learning, collaborative work, and exchanging ideas to achieve greater progress and innovation in this domain.The workshop was conducted by Professor Dr. Sami Pedawar, an expert in herbal protection and life sciences and a lecturer at Beirut University in Lebanon, along with Marc Vansteenkiste, a senior expert in TVET training.
This event was part of the activities of the “Ezdeharak” project, which primarily focused on the agriculture and medical herbalism sectors across Iraq. The project was funded by the European Union and implemented by the CO-Water organization.
Erbil participated in the Congress of the Association of Arab Universities, which took place on 23–24 April 2025 at Kuwait International University in Kuwait.The Rector of Erbil Polytechnic University, with a number of Rectors from Kurdistan Region universities, joined the opening activities of the 57th General Session of the Arab Universities Association at Kuwait International University.During the Congress, where many ministers and Rectors from member universities attended, the Rector of Erbil Polytechnic University and other Rectors from Kurdistan Region, representing the Kurdistan Region, held a series of meetings with participants of the Congress.In these meetings, the Kurdistan delegation discussed developing relations and coordination between the universities and exchanged ideas.In another meeting, Prof.Dr. Idris Mohammed Tahir Herki, the Rector of Erbil Polytechnic University, met with Dr. Barakat Awaz Al-Hadhiban, the Head of the Board of Trustees at Kuwait International University. They talked about strengthening the relationship between the two universities in the fields of science and work. They also discussed creating opportunities for student training between the two universities. They decided that this year, a number of students from Kuwait International University would visit Erbil Polytechnic University for summer training.During the conference activities, several topics related to university education were discussed in different panels. Some of the topics were: university ranking and classification, coordination between the Arab Universities Union and the AACSB accreditation, digital learning, and other topics related to undergraduate and postgraduate education.
It is important to mention that Erbil Polytechnic University, as a member of the Arab Universities Union, was officially invited every year to the Union Congress. Each time, a member university from a different country hosted the event.
On Wednesday, April 23, 2024, Dr. Botan Majid Ahmad, the Vice Rector of Erbil Polytechnic University for Scientific and Higher Education Affairs, welcomed a team from the French Expertise Agency (Expertise France), led by Dr. Rita Der Sarkissian, an expert in risk management from the agency.
In the meeting, several important people attended: Dr. Ranj Sirwan Abdullah, General Director of the Research and Development Center; Dr. Abdullah Omar Yaseen, Director of International Relations; Dr. Shara Kamal, Head of the Petroleum Technology Department at the College of Technology; an advisor from the Council of Ministers’ Office; and Shanaz Taha, Director of Response at the Joint Crisis Coordination Center from the KRG Ministry of Interior. They all discussed the steps to deal with natural disasters.The purpose of the meeting was to talk about the role of Erbil Polytechnic University in the disaster risk management project in the Kurdistan Region. This project is part of a joint program between the KRG Ministry of Interior, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the French Expertise Agency, supported by the European Union.
At the start of the meeting, Dr. Botan Majid Ahmad welcomed the guests and gave a short introduction about Erbil Polytechnic University, its structure, and its history.
Then, Shanaz Taha spoke about the importance of the disaster risk management project. She said it was a regional project that could help improve disaster management systems, response capacity, and public awareness. It would also support the KRG teams and help them make better decisions during emergencies and use logistic resources well.
Later, Dr. Botan Majid Ahmad said they talked about joining efforts to face natural disasters like droughts, floods, wildfires, and earthquakes. He said they wanted to use scientific research and real data to deal with these disasters in the best and fastest way through academic work.
