The Eleventh International Engineering Conference between Erbil Polytechnic University and Tishk International University started its activities.

On April 29, 2026, with the presence of Prof. Dr. Edris Mohammed Tahir Harki, Rector of Erbil Polytechnic University, Dr. Edris Hadi Salih, Head of the Board of Trustees of Tishk International University, and Dr. Sultan Awrabi, Rector of Tishk International University, along with the assistants of the university rectors, members of the university council, and guests, the opening ceremony of the Eleventh Annual International Engineering Conference between Erbil Polytechnic University and Tishk International University was held.

After listening to the Iraqi national anthem and the Kurdistan national anthem, the Rector of Erbil Polytechnic University, Prof. Dr. Edris Mohammed Tahir Harki, gave a speech. At the beginning of his speech, he welcomed the guests and expressed his happiness for their presence at the opening ceremony of the Eleventh Annual International Engineering Conference, which was organized by Erbil Polytechnic University and Tishk International University.

The university rector pointed out that Erbil Polytechnic University, as a scientific and leading institution, worked seriously to achieve the goals of sustainable development of the United Nations in order to protect the environment and improve community well-being. In this context, the university organized three international conferences this year, and all its study programs, new departments, and master’s and doctoral theses were directed toward serving these goals and the labor market. He hoped that this conference could provide solutions to the challenges of sustainable development and serve the Kurdistan Region and the world.

At the same time, it was a pleasure that the ninth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government took important practical steps to protect the environment, including building eight new dams by 2024, which had an important role in protecting groundwater. Also, through the university’s scientific research, it was proven that implementing the “Runaki Project” in Erbil effectively saved the city from a dangerous stage of air pollution. In the end, he wished for a successful and beneficial conference for all participants.

The Erbil Polytechnic University achieved first place at the level of the Kurdistan Region.

In a new scientific achievement for the Erbil Polytechnic University, according to the latest ranking of the SCImago (SCImago Journal Rank), which was published in April 2026, the “Polytechnic Journal” succeeded in achieving first place among all scientific journals in the Kurdistan Region.

This annual ranking, which relied on several precise international criteria, identified the Polytechnic Journal as a leading journal in the Kurdistan Region and one of the successful journals in Iraq. The most important criteria considered in this classification were:

* Quartile ranking: The journal was able to achieve a strong position within the quartile classification, which showed the level of trust the journal gained among international researchers.

* Scientific impact (SJR): This was a measure used to evaluate the quality and influence of the research published in the journal.

This achievement was not only significant for Erbil Polytechnic University but also held great importance for the higher education sector in the Kurdistan Region, as it indicated the advancement of scientific research standards in the region.

It is worth noting that the SCImago portal was one of the most well-known and precise systems for evaluating scientific journals worldwide, and it updated its rankings annually using data from Scopus to provide global standards and rankings for scientific journals.

The administration of Erbil Polytechnic University and the staff of the Polytechnic Journal confirmed that they continued to further develop the journal in order to achieve higher rankings at both regional and global levels in the future.

The manager of our university’s Career Development Center participated in a training course at the Job Search Club

Within the continuous efforts to develop the abilities of youth and graduates, the city of Erbil hosted a training course for trainers and facilitators (ToT / ToF) for the “Job Search Club (JSC)” or job search advisors. This important training was organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO) with financial support from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). It started on February 28, 2026, and finished successfully on March 12, 2026.

The course was attended by active representatives from our university. They included Asst.prof.Dr. Hataw Karim Khidr, Director of the Career Development Center (CDC), and teacher Amal Sani, Coordinator of the Career Development Center at Shaqlawa Technical College.

The main goal of this training was to prepare a group of skilled trainers and facilitators in career development centers at polytechnic universities in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, as well as youth centers under the Ministry of Culture and Youth.

This step was an important part of the strategy to reduce unemployment and prepare young people for the job market. In the future, these trainers guided youth using modern and scientific methods.Through this program, graduates learned job search tools, how to write a professional CV and cover letter, how to pass job interviews successfully, and how to build strong connections with important people in the job market.

It is worth mentioning that our university always gave great importance to such activities and programs and continuously supported them. It strongly believed that strengthening the professional skills of youth and preparing them for the job market was one of its main duties and a big responsibility. Therefore, it always supported efforts that created better opportunities and a brighter future for our graduates and students.
