After receiving a fund as the only university above the Kurdistan Region and Iraq within the International Program of Erasmus+ (Funded by European Union), the first opening session of the Camp+ started on 10 to 11th of February, 2022. All the project partners attended this session; Erbil Polytechnic University representatives consisted of the Rector Assistant for Scientific Affairs Dr. Nageb Toma Bato, and the Head of Cultural Relations at the International Relations Office Department Asst. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Omer Yassin participated in the face-to-face meeting in France. Also, through online zoom, the EPU International Office Department Director Asst. Prof. Dr. Ranj Sirwan Abdullah and Dr. Selar Othman attended this event.
In this meeting, they accurately planned for three years, from 2021 to 2024, including the refugees and displaced people capacity building to cope with the society and strengthen their characters to seize job opportunities.
They also assured upon building a specific website for the project and conducting monthly meetings to follow up the project and provide a coordinator by each partner.
The project partners decided to hold the TOT courses (online or live) in Italy and pursue their management. Fifteen staff from the EPU, the Italian establishments, and Greece will attend these courses, from which five trainees will start working as trainers in the camps.
During the project continues, the partners will evaluate the process from inside and outside. Then, at the end of the project European Union will assess it.
In continuation of the Erbil Polytechnic University, international Relations Office activities in creating job opportunities, exchanging and learning for the students, and building a network with the world students, on Tuesday 19th of October 2021, the International Relations Department of the EPU arranged an event through an international program in the Seminar Hall of the EPU Presidency.
In this event, the EPU Rector Asst. Prof. Dr. Kawa Abdulkareem Sherwani, the Rector Assistant for Scientific Affairs Dr. Nageb Toma Bato, the Rector Assistant for Students Affairs Asst. Prof. Dr. Yousif Mustafa Rasul, the International Relations Office Director Asst. Prof. Dr. Ranj Sirwan Abdullah and the Students Interior Departments Mr. Farhad Othman, were present. The students who participated in this program talked about the project they presented in the online academic program from the 12th to the 27th of August 2021, prepared by the Global Youth leadership Academy (GYLA) and M3TRIX Academic Organization.
Erbil Polytechnic University is the only university in Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region attended this program with five students (Shaho Hassan, Sima Abdulkarim, Braw Talib, Abdullah Dhaher, and Awat Qadir) from the Erbil Technical Administration College, Erbil Technical Engineering College, and Erbil Technical Health College. Dr. Selar Othman supervised and cooperated with the students. These students gained good degrees, but Sima Abdulkarim’s Seminar presentation was the top one amongst them in the program.
On this program, twenty UN Official and Company Representatives, 1,200 alumni, 500 young leaders from 30 countries encouraged youth to become systems thinkers, change-makers, innovators, and global leaders in the future. The program of GYLA includes UN System and Youth Empowerment, Thought Leadership, Global Mindset, and Action Competence.
Global Youth Leadership Academy (GYLA) is a world-class educational and experiential learning program that provides students with leadership training, international and cultural awareness and builds their commitment to servant leadership. The Global Youth and Leadership Academy (GYLA) was established in 2016 with top Chinese universities & UN Agencies. The youth-led platform provides young people with the opportunity to learn and exchange knowledge and experiences with global leaders. GYLA brings young people together to discuss the role of youth in addressing the challenges of the pandemic and commitment to the SDGs with global leaders.
To shed more light on this event, it is worth mentioning that in collaboration with M3TRIX Academy, UN agencies, and leading universities, GYLA has developed the online program eGYLA for young people who aspire to be future leaders and social innovators. They will learn how to address the post-pandemic futures and realize the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
At the end of the seminar, our Rector delivered a short speech. He expressed his gratitude towards the great efforts presented by the International Relations Office in this program and achieving funds for our students’ projects. He also appreciated the hardworking of our students who attend such national and international programs with high scientific levels, charismatic characteristics, and great confidence in themselves, then gain high results. Finally, the EPU Rector offered the participation certification and a book written by him about leadership to the students who attended the program.
On Tuesday 4th of October 2021, Erbil Polytechnic University rewarded 200 lecturers Assistant, Professor Lecturer assistants, and Professors who gained scientific titles or were scientifically promoted.
In this ceremony, the KRG Spokesman Dr. Jutyar Adel, the Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Deputy Dr. Abdulfatah Abdulrazaq, and several general directors, the Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister consultants, the Rector Assistants, the University Council Members were present, and the lecturers got promoted.
At the beginning of the ceremony, the EPU Rector Asst. Prof. Dr. Kawa Abdulkareem Sherwani Presented a speech in which he welcomed the guests and expressed his appreciation for their attendance in this valuable ceremony. He also congratulated the university lecturers for their remarkable achievements and sustainable success.
His Excellency, the EPU Rector, talked about our university’s progress from its beginning as a higher education establishment and technical Education Board and later Erbil Polytechnic University. He also said, “EPU has witnessed vast development in the quality and quantity of the lecturers and researches and in national and international ranking our university has seen great progress.”
The EPU Rector also said: “at the recent two years, 200 lecturers achieved scientific title or got promoted, 30 were lecturers became assistant professors, 100 lecturers gained a master degree and scientific title and advanced to assistant lecturers. Also, 30 lecturers received Ph.D. degrees, and 40 assistant lecturers became lectures after writing research. All these are our university achievements, products, and hardworking that encouraged and supported lecturers to do studies and publish them in famous magazines.
At the end of his speech, his Excellency the EPU Rector welcomed the guests, congratulated the lecturers, and wished them more success. Then, he asked the Kurdistan Region Government Spokesman and the Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Deputy to offer the honorary certifications to the academic staff.
