Erbil Polytechnic University arranges a workshop on the Bologna Process for the heads of scientific departments

On Wednesday, the 26th of October, 2023, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhamad Tahir Harki, the Rector of the Erbil Polytechnic University, a workshop on the Bologna Process for the heads of scientific departments of colleges and institutes of our university was held.

In the workshop, the Vice Rector for Scientific Affairs, the Dean of the Erbil Technology College, and a number of members of the university council were present. The rector welcomed the audience and spoke about the importance of the Bologna process for the university, teachers and students. He said: “In my opinion, the head of the scientific department is really the dynamo of the university. All the work related to teachers and students, who are both the main components of the university. Therefore, we have focused on this point and paid great attention to the head of department, because it is very important and necessary for the head of department to participate in such courses and workshops”.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the importance of the Erbil Polytechnic University for the academic year 2022-2023 is that the number of graduates is higher than all universities in the Kurdistan Region, which makes us serious about the Bologna process. It is the only university in Iraq that has started this subject in a very orderly manner and continues to cut more levels.  Currently, Iraqi universities are planning to come to the Erbil Polytechnic University to see what we have done and they can benefit from our experience in this regard. Therefore, we consider such courses important so that we can move forward and become a university. I can guarantee you that the future of our university is for the Erbil Polytechnic University, because Erbil Polytechnic University has started both the Bologna project and the name of the polytechnic can adapt to the labor market much easier. Our people are now aware and know what to study and go to study in what department, because they understood that studying is not only for a degree but also for you to work, we must try, as today We are tiring you but I am sure a good future awaits both you and your university. Welcome very much. I hope you will not miss such workshops and make a good commitment to them. Thank you again for your presence and I wish you success.”

Then the workshop program began in which the Bologna Process Committee led by Dr. Botan Majid Asngar and expert teachers in the field were explained the latest developments in the process.

  • Abstract
Goal: The aim of the current study is to elucidate the historical evolution of information and
communication technology and establish the relationship between (information and
communication technology and enhancing the training efficiency of instructors) at Erbil
    Polytechnic University.
General Framework: The general framework of the study addresses the research problem,
which has raised several questions about the nature of the relationship, impact, and variation
between the independent variable (information and communication technology) and the
dependent variable represented by (training efficiency). To achieve this, a hypothetical study
plan was designed, consisting of a set of main hypotheses. To validate these hypotheses, they
underwent multiple tests, using a survey questionnaire as a means of data collection.
Study Methodology: The study adopted a descriptive-analytical approach, where the main
and subsidiary variables were described. This methodology was also used to analyze the
relationships and effects among variables. Study Population: The current study includes all
instructors in the colleges and institutes affiliated with Erbil Polytechnic University. The
hypotheses were tested using statistical methods through the software (SPSS V.22).
Conclusions and Recommendations: The study arrived at several main conclusions,
including the presence of a positive linear relationship between information systems and
training efficiency at both the overall and partial levels. The results of pre-distribution
questionnaire tests indicated that they met the criteria of face validity, comprehensiveness,
and stability. This, along with the arbitration process, suggests the possibility of relying on the
data results obtained through the questionnaire. The study proposes leveraging the strong
relationship between the variables to benefit Erbil Polytechnic University and recommends
    supporting and enhancing weaker relationships.

The Renewable Energy Laboratory was opened in Erbil Technology College in the presence of Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhamad Tahir Harki, the Rector of the Erbil Polytechnic University.

At the beginning of the ceremony, which was attended by Dr. Amir Chali, the Advisor of the Minister of the Higher Education and Scientific Research and a number of other officials, Dr. Diler Abdullah, the Head of the Department of Mechanics and Energy, welcomed the guests. He said: “We are pleased to have you present at the opening ceremony of the Renewable Energy Laboratory in the Department of Mechanics and Renewable Energy presented to our university by the German Justice Organization and some of the teachers of the College of Education at Salahaddin University.”

Later, Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhamad Tahir Harki, the Rector of the Erbil Polytechnic University, expressed his pleasure at the opening of several laboratories in the field of energy and said, “the renewable energy has become the energy that comes from natural resources, water, air, and sun. After world felt threatened on Earth, by rising temperatures, climate change, environmental change, the direction of energy use has changed to use renewable energy.”

Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhamad Tahir Harki said: “Fortunately, as a university with the assistance of THM University and financial support of the German Justice Organization we were able to work on this issue. THM and the German Justice Organization were able to provide equipment and teachers were trained for a long time on the subjects taught in the department.”

Referring to the world’s shift towards renewable energy, he said: “Therefore, we in Kurdistan universities, especially in the Erbil Polytechnic University, should step forward in this direction and teach our students so that we are not separated from the science that most countries in the world are busy with.”

“One of the countries that pays a lot of attention to this issue is Germany, which ranks third in the world after China and the United States for the use of renewable energy, and fortunately we have done this with a German university .We want to thank both Prof. Dr. Bakr Farangis and Prof. dr. Klaus who unfortunately retired two weeks ago from the German university who have helped us to reach this conclusion.”

The Erbil Polytechnic University Rector hoped that they can continue to pay attention to this field so that they can serve the university, Kurdish society and humanity and said: “This issue has an impact on the world and the whole globe.

Then the Dean of the Erbil Technology College, Asst. Prof. Dr. Botan Majid Asngar said: “It is a matter of pride that despite all the crises and problems facing the Kurdistan Region, we continue our efforts for a brighter future. We have not stood still and have not surrendered to the problems we face,”

He also said: “Our university has not hesitated to adapt to the developments of the modern world and new technology. We have always tried to be at the forefront of the needs of our country and the new world .We opened new departments not only at the level of our university but also at the level of Erbil and the Kurdistan Region, such as the Department of Automotive Technology, which is the only department in the Kurdistan Region that offers both two-year diploma and four-year bachelor’s degrees.”

He added that with the support of the Presidency of Erbil Polytechnic University and the financial support of the Kurdistan Regional Government, the Department of Renewable Energy is one of the departments that does not have a department with such a name. That is why, we are working on the department as a starting point that currently offers a two-year diploma and in the broader future for a bachelor’s degree in this field.

The Dean of Erbil Technology College said: “Of course, the Kurdistan Region is increasingly in need of energy due to the expansion of the population, factories and needs throughout the Kurdistan Region. We are happy and consider ourselves caring and loyal to the field that we have started and we are trying to offer bigger and better things to our country. I would like to thank Dr. Bakr Farangis who holds German citizenship and came from THM University in Germany, but a Kurd of that country and very Kurdish and very loyal heart supervised the course properly and the cadres, students and employees learned daily under his supervision They have done a great job of care and patriotism. On behalf of the university, ourselves and the Department of New Energy Technology, we welcome and thank them very much.”

Dr. Bakr Farangis, the trainer and supervisor of the course for the cadres and teachers of the Department of the Renewable Energy, said: “As an Eastern Kurd, I do not consider myself a guest here and I am not the owner of the Home, but I am here as a friend and I am in your service. I will briefly talk about laboratory science. Our point is based on two opinions. What we know does not mean that we have comprehended it ourselves. It is better to do it ourselves I am very happy to be at your service. Work is very important, but to do it in practice, to make a mistake and correct it, that mistake is very helpful. I thank all those who helped us, so I will not mention anyone’s name lest I forget a name. I am very happy to be at your service.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Ranj Sirwan Abdullah in a speech pointed out how to start the work of establishing the laboratories and said: The idea of establishing this laboratory in the research center was proposed with two professors of our university. After much effort with Dr. Bakr We were able to prepare a new energy proposal at our university. In fact, our work has not completed yet. Our first goal was the first phase of the laboratory, but the second phase is to open a renewable energy center in Kurdistan. God willing, the Erbil Polytechnic University will continue to work with THM University and the Justice Organization of Germany to take steps for the second phase for another two years. We are very pleased that Dr. Bakr is with us and we have contact with him. We hope that Dr. Amir and the Ministry of Higher Education will help us in the second phase, in any way we can move towards the second stage. The proposal is ready, but as you know, it requires resources. Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhamad Tahir Harki our university Recot, expressed his readiness to support us according to the university’s financial capacities, but I know that such a project requires a lot of expenses, so I would like this work to continue. Thank God, the dream that began with one step and one email will reach the end, thank you very much.

Before the end of the ceremony, Dr. Karwan and the teachers presented a special seminar on the laboratory, supplies and works and explained to the audience what they have done and the importance of their work.
