On Monday, December 16th, 2024. The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhamad Tahir Harki, the Rector of Erbil Polytechnic University, Dr. Azad Hassan Qadir, Vice-Rector for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Dr. Yousif Mustafa Rasul, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, along with a group of university administrators and lecturers.
The panel, organized by the university’s Health and Safety Administration, took place at the Cultural Center Hall of Erbil Polytechnic University.
The panel organized by the university health and safety administration was held under the title “Addiction as a Factor in Youth Losing Hope for the Future.”
The panel started with a welcome speech, then it was led by the moderator, Ms. Juwan Mahdi Abid, the Director of health and safty at the university.
The panel included: Ms. Tavga Omer Rashid, the Director of Legal affairs at Human Rights commission at Erbil.
Prof. Dr. Edrees Qadir Hamadamin, a university professor; Dr. Nizar Zrar Ahmad, a psychology expert; Mohammed Hamid Khoshnaw, an officer in the Narcotics Directorate ,and Mr. Sarmand Hamid Barzinji, a head of administration at Erbil Polytechnic University participated in the panel.
At the end of the panel, the organizers asked questions to the panelists and then presented them with certificates of appreciation.
A team of Erbil Polytechnic University/Mergasor Technical Institute students, led by Dr. Talib Omer, took second place at the Global Solutions Sustainability Challenge sponsored Virtual Business Expo on December 18,2024. The Virtual Business Expo is an online competition designed to help solve global challenges.
Mergasor Technical Institute takes pride in its achievements, ranking second globally under the facilitation of Dr. Talib Omer for EPU/Mergasor Technical Institute students. Each student from Iraq, Kurdistan and Jordan universities is paired with U.S. college students. Erbil Polytechnic University has established a partnership with Goldey-Beacom College, located in Pike Creek Valley, a suburb of Wilmington, Delaware, USA.
“Team 7’s victory is a testament to the power of teamwork and the importance of bringing diverse perspectives together to tackle global challenges. This binational team proved that by uniting talents across borders, we can create innovative solutions that address critical sustainability issues”. said Dr. Talib. “
Through these eight-week programs, college students come together in cross-cultural teams to improve global citizenship, strengthen skills in problem solving and foster connections while collaborating online and enhancing job skills. Global Solutions defines the challenge as an event which forms “gender-balanced teams to pair up with their binational partner”.
Each team is guided by the provided curriculum to create a sustainable solution to their selected sustainability problem, inspired by the UN Sustainable Development Goals. 11Teams with more than 240 students from different national backgrounds work together to research, brainstorm, design, test and pitch their innovative solution. The top five teams present their pitch live at the culminating event, the Virtual Business Expo, where the top three finalists are selected by a panel of judges to receive a small grant to further develop their concepts.
The students collaborated on an initiative they named “Art Without Borders,” an online portal to bridge cultural gaps and foster international art appreciation. AWB transforms accessibility to art and culture through innovative 3D printing solutions, bringing culturally enriching art and artifacts to under-resourced communities worldwide. By creating high-quality, locally produced replicas of international cultural pieces, AWB make global culture accessible to all.
Through AWB, students in the fall 2024 Cohort XI have given purpose by: Bridging Cultures,Building Futures One 3D Print at a Time. Using cutting-edge 3D printing technology, students bring culturally enriching art and artifacts to under-resourced communities worldwide. By creating high-quality, locally produced replicas of international cultural pieces, we make global culture accessible to all.
Global Solutions Sustainability Challenge is a virtual exchange initiative that supports workforce development in the U.S., Iraq and Jordan through two programs: Global Solutions Sustainability Challenge & Global Solutions Conversations. Today, Tuesday, the 6th of August, 2024, in the presence of Dr. Aram Mohammed Qadir, the Minister of the Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Mark Straw, the General Consul of the United States in the Kurdistan Region, Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhamad Tahir Harki, the Rector of the Erbil Polytechnic University, the Rectors of Sulaimani and Duhok Polytechnic Universities, the Vice Rectors for the Administrative and Financial Affairs and the Scientific and Higher Education Affairs, and several university council members, faculty, and guests, the laboratories of Cisco Academy for American Technology Development were opened in a ceremony at the first campus of the Erbil Polytechnic University.
At the Beginning, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research delivered a speech. He said: “I am pleased to participate in the announcement ceremony of the project (American Technology Development) in the three polytechnic universities (Erbil, Sulaimani, and Duhok. He also said: “This project is dedicated to provide the US Cisco technology in the field of networking and cyber security for computer laboratories in the three polytechnic universities of Erbil, Sulaimani and Duhok.
In another part of his speech; Dr. Aram Mohammed Qadir spoke about the importance of implementing the project and said: “This project will have a great impact on the process of education and practical training in the field of networking and cyber security Domestic and international job opportunities can be obtained, because all the skills taught in these laboratories are the current needs of the Kurdistan, regional and global labor market.
At the end of his speech; The Minister of the Higher Education and Scientific Research thanked the US Government and people, IREX and the US General Consulate in the Kurdistan Region for their continuous assistance to the ministries and universities.
Then, Mr. Mark Straw, the US General Consul in the Kurdistan Region, delivered a speech in which he said: “The opening of these laboratories in these three universities is a testament to your commitment as academic leaders in creating the best learning environment for your students They have worked hard to implement this project.
The US General Consul in the Kurdistan Region said that Cisco Laboratories for US Technology Development in the Kurdistan Region will provide advanced US technology to the next generation of Kurdish IT professionals and help them learn valuable computer skills and be more competitive in the global labor market We will also provide training for teachers.
Later, the laboratory of Cisco Academy for American Technology Development at the Erbil Polytechnic University was opened by Dr. Aram Mohammed Qadir, the Minister of the Higher Education and Scientific Research and Mark Straw, the General Consul General of the United States in the Kurdistan Region The laboratories were opened.
Cisco Academy Laboratories for Promoting American Technology in Iraqi Kurdistan Region with the financial support of the US Government in the amount of $ 1.4 million by USAID in three (Erbil Polytechnic University, Sulaimani Polytechnic). and Duhok Polytechnic) has been implemented, which consists of the construction of (9) nine scientific laboratories with the latest scientific equipment in the field of communication for the three polytechnic universities of the Kurdistan Region ) and (IT) and (networking) so that they can use the laboratories scientifically for educational purposes.
The implementation of the project will be an important part of the higher education process to award academic certificates in the field of (Cyber Security) and US technology in the Kurdistan Region, which will provide both public and private sectors Both the public and private sectors will be able to prepare skilled workers in line with the needs of the labor market, because the laboratories are built with the most advanced laboratories in the region.
After their visit to Erbil and meeting the Rector of the Erbil Polytechnic University, Industrial University of Tyumen provides opportunities for researchers from eight countries to participate in the Summer Institute Project for the faculty members and researchers initiated by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation for the first time. It is planned that the project will be implemented from the 29th of to the 12th of August, 2024.
Dr. Dlzar Yousif Qader an academic staff of the Erbil Technology College is among 25 representatives of universities from China, South Africa, Vietnam, the Philippines, Iraq, Mongolia, Serbia and Nigeria has participated in the IUT Summer Institute program entitled “Oil Horizons of Siberia” that is associated with one of the university’s priority areas of focus. The Participants will be offered a special developed engineering track, and for the first time in the history of the project, it will be implemented in English language.
IUT faculty will update young researchers about the development of oil and gas wells in Western Siberia, methods of increasing oil recovery and intensifying the inflow, hydrodynamic modeling and will use computer simulators for the oil and gas complex, maintenance and repair of oil and gas equipment. The program includes an introduction to the IUT training and production drilling complex, located in the practice ground of Uspenka. The participants will be shown the “Process Factory”; as an innovative platform for the practical application of lean manufacturing tools.
IUT partners will take part in the implementation of educational tracks: Tyumen State University, Ural Federal University, and Tyumen Oil Research Center. The professional modules will be complemented by a rich cultural program that will introduce participants to the history and traditions of Siberia. the Project participants will visit the archaeological museum-reserve, learn about the history of the development of Siberia, get acquainted with the culture of merchants, the traditions of the Cossacks, and the fate of the Decembrists.
These activities is part of Internationalization strategy of the university and the International Relations Office to provide opportunity for students and staff to explore wide world and enhance their knowledge and their networking skills.
