Erbil Polytechnic University is pleased to invite its academic staff to a webinar on (Towards Blended Learning; Strategies and Roles of Teachers) presented by Dr. Nashwa Ismail. This webinar is timely after the announcement of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq that this years’ academic study will be conducted through blended learning as it is due to the spread of pandemic and lack of ability for university campuses to host students.
This webinar is organized by the International Relations Office and it is part of the EPU’s strategy of internationalization and standarise its curriculum activities.
Presenter’s Biography:
Dr. Nashwa Ismail has MSc and PhD in Education from University of Southampton, UK and she is Fellow of The Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Dr. Ismail has 10-years teaching experience in higher education and further education. In research, Dr.Ismail’s area of expertise is Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL). In this area, she takes part in different research projects in the UK and overseas countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, the Middle East (Egypt, Saudi Arabia), Myanmar and Thailand. Furthermore, she teaches qualitative research methods and its application on Qualitative Data Analysis Software (QDAS) using NVivo and ATLAS.ti. She has a special focus on Games-Based Learning (GBL), Academic Professional Development (APD) and educational leadership. Her current role is a Research Associate in LEARN Cit Sci project – Institute for Educational Technology at Open University. Dr. Ismail’s role is to engage with youth online and evaluate online citizen science learning activities using mainly qualitative approaches (e.g. interviews). Besides, Dr.Ismail has technical background being active Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT), Microsoft Certified Educator (MCE) and qualified Training Assessor Assessment, and Quality Assurance (TAQA), since 2005. She has delivered a wide range of programs to technical audiences in an industry setting in the Gulf, Middle East and the UK.

Since 2009 Technische Universitat Bergakademie Freiberg of Germany has academic cooperation with seven Iraqi Universities, including Erbil Polytechnic University, to support them to participate in two weeks of the summer training program in Germany for the top one of third-year students. Due to the pandemic crisis caused by the Coronavirus Covid-19, this training program will not be performed in Germany, but in Erbil, virtually by providing online courses and materials. Then the practical part will be implemented at a laboratory contains all requirements of place and three-dimension instruments.

Erbil Polytechnic University would like to announce about a two week of a virtual summer training program for EPU students under the title of “DAAD-German Iraqi University Partnership program/DAAD, based on presenting online lectures and training on Software. Students who live in Erbil can attend practical lessons in the laboratory of Salahaddin University Erbil or visit factories according to the health safety and requirements of protection against Coronavirus COVID-19. Meanwhile, the students who live in sub-districts and out of Erbil border can watch these lectures on video.

This summer school training will be held on 6-17^th of September 2020 at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the College of Engineering of Salahaddin University Erbil, on Kirkuk road in Erbil.

Within the activities and great works of the Erbil Polytechnic University to develop the scientific level of the students, the scientific conference is done under the title of “Covid-19 from Challenge to Opportunity” on 16-18^th of August 2020.

On Sunday, 9^th August 2020, 4:00 pm GMT +3, 9:00 am GMT  Erbil Polytechnic University hosts a webinar on “Privilege & Accountability in Online Learning” presented by Dr. Jessica Ashe on an online meeting. The International Relations Office has organized this webinar at EPU, which is part of a series of international activities to promote the internationalization strategy of the university and enhances its ranking among world universities.

This fall, many teachers and students are not returning to school in the way they hoped – online. At this unprecedented moment in history, the job of the educational leader is to help students adapt to this privileged point of connection and ensure class is interactive. The student should, under no circumstance, halt their educational process. Right now, despite the disheartening global situation, actually because of this sadness, embracing this connection for growth can enliven the spirit. This session will focus on detailed strategies and tips for successful online education and learning this particular fall.

Dr. Jessica Ashe is the CEO of Global Mobility, with the mission of strengthening global communities by uniting diverse members in shared meaning-making growth projects. She helps students, scholars, and entrepreneurs of developing nations to get to the worldwide stage, where they belong. Through her work with Miami University Regional Campus Global Programs over the past five years, and before that, Dr. Ashe raised children deliberately, from her volunteer work in the public school system. She discovered the need to teach personal leadership skill sets to teenagers explicitly. As such, she developed many lessons in that area and has started a YouTube channel devoted to Mindset Growth. Jessica also teaches conflict resolution and the value of community service. Her doctoral degree is in Literacy & Second Language Studies (LSLS) from the University of Cincinnati. As a doctoral student, she traveled to Erbil and taught at Salahaddin University as a participant in the higher education exchange between the two schools. Her master’s degree is in European Languages & Literatures from the University of Hawaii @ Manoa, where she also taught French. During that time, she also studied at the Sorbonne and the Centre International d’Etudes Françaises in Angers, France. Her undergraduate degree in Cultural Anthropology from Emory University incited a love of understanding the deep intrinsic values in all cultures. She is currently in her second year of an MBA from Miami University Farmer School of Business.

It is worth to be mentioned that the International Relations Office of Erbil Polytechnic University is in the process of signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Miami Regional University to establish collaboration in students and staff mobility, research innovation, and offer online courses. Such a partnership is fulfilling the vision and mission of the university in improving its visibility locally and internationally.
