Today on Monday 17th of May, 2021, the Erbil Polytechnic Participates in the first annual international conference of ICET. The International Conference on education and teaching in K-12 Schools (ICET) is a joint educational event organized by Stirling Schools, Cambridge University Press, City & Guilds, and GEMS Education. This conference will start today at 12:00 PM in the VIP Reception Venue in the Rotana Hotel Erbil, which lasts for two days. This international conference promotes education and contributes to developing the schools and teacher’s professional development in Iraq and KRG. ICET is being organized for the first time in 2021. It brings together teacher trainers, educational experts, and community leaders from the national and international communities. It is worth mentioning that ICET invited the Erbil Polytechnic University to this conference to contribute to the events as a ‘supporting partner’ along with the University of London, British Consulate General-Erbil, and UK Teaching Academy.

On Sunday 9th of March, 2021, the Erbil Polytechnic University Pedagogy Center opened the third training course league. In this event, the Rector of the EPU, Asst. Prof. Dr.Kawa Abdulkareem Sherwani, the Deputy of Director General of Research and Development and the Pedagogy Department Supervisor at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Fuad Ali Ismail, were present.
At the beginning of the league, the Director of the Pedagogy Center, Dr.Khalil Hussein, welcomed the attendees. Then, the Rector of the EPU, who was available online, delivered a statement in which he welcomed Mr. Fuad Ismail, the Deputy of Director General of Research and Development and the Pedagogy Department Supervisor at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. He also congratulated the learners and expressed his appreciation towards the efforts of the Pedagogy Center Director, who succeeded in developing the courses.
In another part of his speech, His Excellency Asst. Prof. Dr. Kawa Sherwani said: “To develop academic staff level, opening and delivering these courses in a new style is an important beginning towards internationalizing the universities. We feel depressed because of seeing Iraqi and Kurdistan Region universities in low grades of the international ranking of the universities.
The Rector of the EPU continued his speech: “It is about two years; we implement Bologna Process and ECTS system in the Erbil polytechnic University in the education process to cope with the progress of the world universities and to develop the students and academic staff level. Dears, everyone who carries a Master’s and Ph.D. degree cannot be an instructor in the university until he/she participates in these training courses to be able to deliver lessons according to the global style of the education system. Ladies and Gentlemen, these courses might be difficult for most of you due to your life difficulties; please be patient because I am sure they will finally have enormous benefits for you and our country. Finally, I congratulate you and the Pedagogy Center.”
Then, Mr. Fuad Ali Ismail presented his speech in which he acknowledged and congratulated the attendees of these courses. He talked about the role of the EPU Rector in enhancing and developing the Pedagogy Center of the EPU. He also said: “I message the history that Asst. Prof. Dr. Kawa Abdulkareem Sherwani was the committee president; he was so successful in this process. When they came back from Finland, he told the Minister of the Higher Education and Scientific Research we should begin from the lecturers to make this experience successful and fruitful in the Kurdistan Region.”
In the detail of his statement, Mr. Fuad Ali Ismail Said: “Dears, the Ministry of the Higher Education and Scientific Research supports these courses, that is why we tend to send 28 other lecturers to Finland as soon as possible to be trainees when they return to be able to train other academic staff. I again congratulate the Erbil Polytechnic University and the learners.”
It is worth to be mentioned that this course is the third time be opened in the EPU and continues for about six months. 63 students are participating. The training courses will be delivered in blended learning. Still, now they are delivered online because of the pandemic situation of Corona-Covid19, according to instructions of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
