A Sports Lecturer of the Erbil Polytechnic University has won the Antalya International Tennis Championship

Mr. Wirya Abdulqadir, a sports lecturer at the Erbil Polytechnic University, won three gold medals at the Antalya International Tennis Championships.

During his participation in the Antalya International Tennis Championships, Mr. Wirya Abdulqadir won the Antalya International Tennis Championship after reaching the final stage.

Mr. Wirya Abdulqadir, who is also the first vice president of the Iraqi Tennis Federation, defeated, during the tournament, he defeated the Turkish top seed Tarq Farakhi 2-1 in singles.

In the second round, he defeated Azerbaijan’s Alshin Rahimov 2-0.

In the doubles match, Mr. Wirya Abdulkadir and Alshin Rahimov faced Turkish player Omid Aksoy and German player Stevan Ulbreck they won the match in two sets to one (2-1) and became the chamoions.

In a telephone conversation, his Excellency Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhmad Tahir Harki, the Rector of Erbil Polytechnic University congratulated Mr. Wirya Abdulqadir on winning the championship title and wished him further success, while he expressed his full support for winning another championship title.

The University Rector receives a delegation from Imam Al-Aedham University

On Sunday, the 20th of August, 2023, Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhamad Tahir Harki, the Rector of the Erbil Polytechnic University, received a delegation from Imam Al-Aedham University.

In a meeting where the Vice Rectors for the Administrative, the Scientific Affairs and Higher Education, and the Student Affairs were present, the Rector welcomed the delegation and briefed them about our university history. In return, the guest delegation expressed their pleasure to visit the Erbil Polytechnic University.

In their meeting session, both parties discussed the development of universities by benefiting from each other’s experience and both sides agreed to establish scientific relations. In this regard, the Rector stressed upon the collaboration of the two universities in various fields, especially research and scientific conferences.

  Another topic of the meeting was the admission of students to universities and the opening of higher education study, master’s and doctoral degrees was another aspect of the discussions. In another part of the meeting, both sides considered the internationalization of universities as an important and necessary step to improve the scientific level of teachers and students.

The Rector of the Erbil Polytechnic University participated in the meeting of Iraqi Polytechnic Universities

Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhamad Tahir Harki, the Erbil Polytechnic University participated in the roundtable meeting of polytechnic universities in Iraq, which was hosted by the Middle Technical University and held in Erbil city.

In a meeting where the Minister Deputy of the Higher Education and Scientific Research of Iraq, Dr. Haider Abd Zahd, the Chairman of the Committee of the Education, Technical and Vocational Training Reform Project in Iraq, Dr. Hamid Khalaf Ahmed and the consultant of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Iraq Mr. Ala Abed Hassan, the Rectors of Iraqi and Kurdistan Polytechnic Universities, and the Vice Rector of Erbil Polytechnic University for Scientific Affairs and Higher Education were present, they discussed the steps taken to promote technical and vocational education in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

After presenting the speeches, the agenda of the meeting was presented through nine different topics discussing the independence of admission in polytechnic universities, especially in departments that follow the Bologna system, as well as the proposals and recommendations of the previous meeting technical education in Iraq and its transformation into the Office of Technical Education in the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, steps to implement the Bologna system and obstacles to its implementation, investment projects and discussing the infrastructure construction for newly established universities. Working on changing the ownership of the land of the Ministry of Finance and Economy to polytechnic universities was also discussed along with several other current issues.

In the presence of the University Rector, a meeting was held to admit students to the Orthotics and Prosthetics Department

On Thursday, the 17th of August, 2023, a meeting was held at the University Presidency regarding the educational situation and continuity of education and admission of students in the Orthotics and Prosthetics Department in the Erbil Technical Health and Medicine College.

The meeting was held between the Erbil Polytechnic University and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) supervised by Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Kalari, the Representative of the Ministry of the Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Kurdistan Region. Our university delegation included the Vice Rector for Scientific Affairs and Higher Education and the Head of the Orthotics and Prosthetics Department and the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation consisted of Mr. Tigran Betanian, the Director of the Physical Rehabilitation in ICRC Program in Baghdad and Mr. Yan Libeck, the Director of Partnerships at the organization.

It is worth mentioning that Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhamad Tahir Harki, the Rector of the Erbil Polytechnic University, welcomed the guests and expressed his full support for the success and development of the Orthotics and Prosthetics Department.

The following points were discussed in the meeting and appropriate suggestions were made about the department such as:

1. The International Committee of the Red Cross will continue to provide financial, technical and moral support until the end of 2026 for both the first and second rounds of students admission.

2- Providing budget for 2 foreign academic staff to teach both bachelor’s and master’s degrees by the International Committee of the Red Cross at 75% and the Erbil Polytechnic University at 25%.

3- For the admission of students in the third round, i.e. for the academic year 2024-2025, all partners must cooperate and collaborate with the Erbil Polytechnic University for the success of this program.

4- The International Red Cross and Erbil Polytechnic University are trying to find sponsors for this program, especially for the third and subsequent rounds.

5. Efforts should be made to obtain academic accreditation for this department by international institutions specialized in accrediting academic programs as soon as possible to enable this department accept foreign students.

6. Continue to open higher education study for this department to provide local academic staff.

At the end of the meeting, the representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross expressed their full support for the success of this program.
