Dean of Mergasur Technical Institute visits the United Kingdom
Dean of Mergasur Technical Institute Dr.Talib Mohammed Sharif visited the UK on behalf of the Rector of Erbil Polytechnic University, Prof. Idris Mohammed Tahir Harki.
The official visit was within the framework of academic coordination and memorandum of understanding between Erbil Polytechnic University and the UK universities and academic institutions.
On Sunday, June 9, 2023, he attended a six-day scientific conference entitled “Teaching English in a Digital Word” organized by Imperial English/Uk at Aston University in Birmingham.
The conference is part of the coordination between our university and Imperial English/Uk in the field of English Language and academics. During the conference, they had a fruitful meeting with the head of Imperial English/Uk, and discussed joint projects between the two sides, especially the reform of English programs in colleges and institutes affiliated to our university.
Then the university president Rep had an official meeting with the Lord Mayor of Birmingham and presented a gift. In a speech, the Dean of the Institute spoke about the progress and peaceful coexistence in our region as an unparalleled model in the Middle East. Requesting him for more support for the region and helping any Kurd anywhere.
The Dean then visited the University of Coventry and discussed coordination and collaboration in joint projects between students from both sides in the fields of automotive and engineering.
During his stay in the UK, they also visited the University of Cambridge to establish contacts, building collaboration and sign future memoranda of understanding.
Then, within the framework of the academic coordination between our university and the University of Nottingham, Dr. Talib and Dr. Salar Osman were officially hosted by the university for two days and had a two days’ official meetings.
Several issues and joint work were discussed within the framework of these meetings and are scheduled to be implemented in the future.
Such as allocation and supervision of doctoral students, joint teaching and joint research, postdoctoral research opportunities and supervision of doctoral students, and development of English language and pedagogy for teachers in the Faculties of Engineering, Medicine and School of Education.
He then visited the University of Manchester to establish coordination, then visited Scotland, in Edinburgh to establish coordination with the Royal Botanic Garden Center to benefit from their experience in the field of flora and for Mergasur Technical Institute and Kurdistan in general.

On the sidelines of the visit, they visited several attractions and tourist attractions.

Mergasur Technical Institute implements the Third Mission of Higher Education Institutions
On Sunday 2023/7/2 Dean of Mergasur Technical Institute “Dr. Talib Mohammed Sharif Omer” met a number of employees, teachers and heads of departments and administrative units of the institute. The meeting began with congratulations on the Eid al-Adha, and hoped that everyone had a joyful time with their families and friends.
The Dean’s Omer addressed some important administrative and scientific issues related to our institute. And then, he reaffirmed that Mergasor Technical Institute considers the third mission of universities as a core function alongside teaching and research. The third function is the university’s responsibility to contribute to social, cultural, environmental and economic growth of the community. Therefore, it is the universities and colleges responsibility to be responsive to the needs of its society, and to serve all aspects of life.
In light of the third mission of the university, Mergasur Technical Institute considers it its duty to serve the society. In this regard, several trainings, administrative and academic activities during the summer holidays will be fulfilled for the university external stakeholders.
At the end of the meeting, the door of discussion was opened for the participants, and the Dean listened to their suggestions, comments and remarks of the employees.

Dean of the Technical Institute participates in the scientific conference of Duhok Polytechnic University
On Thursday, June 22, 2023, the Dean of Mergasur Technical Institute Dr. Talib Mohammed Sharif Omer represented Erbil Polytechnic University in the international conference of Duhok Polytechnic University entitled “Dissemination Conference” which was dedicated to the Apprais Project.
In the conference, the Italian Consul General in Erbil, the DPU rector and ten KRG universities along a number of European universities members of UNIMED-Union of Mediterranean Universities attended. Erbil Polytechnic University is scheduled to become a member of the UNIMED in the near future.

The Apprais project is run by UNEMED, and it emphasizes good governance of universities, strategic planning and accountability, promoting Bologna quality assurance, curriculum reform, human capacity building, academic staff development which is funded by the European Union.

UNIMED -a network of higher education and research institutions, it aims promoting academic cooperation in the Euro-Mediterranean region and Africa. It networked with 157 universities and research centers in 30 countries.

On the sidelines of the conference, the university representative discussed with the project manager about Erbil Polytechnic University and the mechanism of becoming a member of the UNIMED, and the top project managers expressed their pleasure that our university becomes a partner with them to work together to serve the community in all areas.

On Tuesday, the 9th of May, 2023, in the presence of His Excellency Mullah Mustafa Massoud Barzani, the Representative of the President of the Kurdistan Region, the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Rector of the University Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhamad Tahir Harki, Director of Soran Independent Administration, Mergasur District Governor, members of the university council, a number of personalities and elders of the region, party and government officials, teachers, and students the official introduction ceremony was held.

The ceremony began with a moment of silence for the souls of the martyrs and listening to the national anthem Ay Raqib. Later, the Dean of the Mergasor Technical University Dr.Talib Mohammed Sharif delivered a speech in which he welcomed and thanked Mulla Mustafa Barzani for his assistance and support to the institute from the establishment of the institute until now.

Then the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research delivered a speech in which he congratulated the Erbil Polytechnic University and officials cooperating in the establishment of the first academic institution in the region and described this step as important for the youth of Mergasor district and Barzan region. What we have performed in the Mergasor Technical Institute is the tiniest gift we could offer to this revolutionary and struggling region and I hope they will accept it from us.

Then in a video, the Rector of the university, Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhamad Tahir Harki said: “The opening of this institute has an effective impact for the region. We are happy to serve this region and as a university we try to adapt the specialties taught in this institute to the nature of the region and the labor market. For this academic year, another scientific department will be opened in Mergasor Technical Institute, which is the nursing department, which will fill the needs of Mergasor district and surrounding areas with medical staff and assistants from the youth of the region. This will affect the development of the health sector in the region.”

Afterwards, a short video on the establishment procedures and the stages of building the institute, as well as the future strategy and program of the institute was explained.

Before the end of the ceremony, Mullah Mustafa Barzani presented awards to those who have been an important helper and supporter in the past in the establishment, opening and development of Mergasor Technical Institute.
