Under the supervision and presence of the Rector Prof. Dr. Erdees Muhamad Tahir Harki, the Department of Petroleum Technology-Chemical Analysis of the Koya Technical Institute today, the 7th of March, 2023 conducted an international workshop in collaboration with the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Kurdistan Chapter entitled “Earthquake and Its Effects on Engineering Systems: Oil, Buildings, Hydraulic Structure”.
In the workshop, the President of Koya University, Governor of Koya and the Dean of Koya Technical Institute Dr. Mohammed Khadr, the Dean of the Erbil Technology College Asst. Prof. Dr. Botan Majid Asngar, the Dean of the Erbil Technical Engineering College Prof. Dr. Ayad Zaki, Asst. Prof. Mr. Umed Arshad, the Dean of the Technical Institute of Medicine and Health, a number of teachers, and experts in the fields of engineering were present. After the welcoming speech by the Dean of Koya Institute, the Rector welcomed the guests in a speech and highlighted the importance of the topic and said; He said that the Erbil Polytechnic University has always tried to strengthen the relationship between the university and the community to further serve the community and said that one of the important tasks of the university is to serve the community to help achieve social and economic stability.
At the end of his speech, he thanked the organizers of the workshop, the Koya Technical Institute and, the experts participated in the workshop and wished them constant success.
The topics of the workshop were presented by several teachers and researchers of Koya Technical Institute with the participation of Iraqi geologist Prof. Dr. Saleh Mohammed Awadh from Baghdad University; Prof. Dr. Saman Ali Abdullah from the University of Texas in the United States of America, Dr. Sirwan from Salahaddin University, and teachers of the Department of the Petroleum Technology from the Koya Technical Institute.
The workshop aimed to facilitate discussion of the latest research, techniques and tools for the earthquake risk assessment and the earthquake damage mitigation to enhance the safety and resilience of these systems against earthquakes.
The workshop was a platform for experts in the fields of Petroleum Engineering, Construction Engineering, and Hydraulic Engineering to share their knowledge and experience on how to assess the impact of earthquakes on these systems.
Finally, the participants and presenters of the workshop had an intensive discussion about earthquakes and their effects on the engineering systems.
