A delegation from the US Consulate General in Erbil visits Mergasor Technical Institute
Today, Tuesday, May 21, 2024, a delegation from the US Consulate General in Erbil led by Pamela Hack, Deputy Consul General and Doug Morrow visited Mergasor Technical Institute.
The purpose of the visit was friendship and to become more familiar with the Mergasor Technical Institute and its future programs and plans of it, knowing more about the possible the areas that are necessary for the growth of the institute.
In a meeting attended by the members of the council of the institute, the Dean of the institute shed light on importance of their visit and requested the consulate to assist the institute in obtaining grants, and support for training courses, exchange of students and academic staff as well as capacity building of employees.
In another part of the meeting, the dean of the institute told the guest delegation that they plan to open two scientific departments (beekeeping department and medicinal plants department) for this purpose asked to cooperate with the institute within the Iraqi economic growth program.
Then the Dean of the Institute presented several gifts to the delegation of the U. S. Consulate General in Erbil. The delegation thanked the Dean and the Council of the Institute.
The delegation also expressed their pleasure that Mergasor Technical Institute has developed in the field of scientific activities and international relations in a record period, including international scientific activities, academic partnerships and sister-college with Portville College in Californian. The Deputy U.S Consul General reaffirmed and promised to cooperate to further develop sitter-college relations.

Then The Deputy U.S. Consul General Pamela Hack wrote some memoirs in the Golden Book of the Institute, talking about Mergasor Technical Institute, its scientific departments and their kind hospitality.
As for lunch time, Mergasor Technical Institute hosted the guest delegation with several Kurdish local dishes.

Today Saturday, May 18, 2024, the Dean of Mergasor Technical Institute Dr. Talib M.Omar accompanied by a delegation visited Shanadir Cave. He was received by of archaeological researchers of Cambridge University Professor Dr Graeme Barker and Dr Emma Pomeroy. In a meeting, the University of Cambridge delegation, consisting of Professor Graeme and Dr. Emma, discussed the importance of the discoveries of Neanderthal skeletons to see how they were and how they behaved.
In another topic of discussion, the researchers discussed the importance of Shander Cave for Kurdistan in the fields of science, economy, politics and tourism for the region and the whole of Iraq.
The Dean of the Institute praised the important scientific works of the two scientists and considered them important for Kurdistan and the whole world. He also expressed the readiness of the Institute and Erbil Polytechnic University for all assistance and preparations in the field of logistics for the research teams. The team of the Cambridge archaeological researchers are currently conducting excavations and scientific research on Neanderthal culture.
It is worth mentioning that in the upcoming months, Mergasor Technical Institute/Erbil Polytechnic University with the team of archaeological researchers from the University of Cambridge, they will jointly hold an International Panel Discussion on Shandadir Cave Discoveries with the participation of experts in the field.
Two British universities recently conducted research in the cave, and found the skull of a woman in her forties and dates back 75,000 years ago. This discovery proves that life in this land dates back thousands of years ago and Kurdistan is the center of civilization and humanity.

Dean of Mergasor Technical Institute, participated as a panelist in the symposium (Cultural Exchange Online in Higher Education). He highlighted the importance of the Virtual Exchange program, which is the relationship and role of partnership in working together in the field of higher education with universities and other organizations in the world and how to communicate, and the role and importance of such programs. Create a successful partnership to internationalize the university, in which students and teachers benefit from science and economics, innovative ideas, familiarity with different cultures, and the development of skills in today’s era. It is worth mentioning that this symposium is a continuation of the work and activities of IREX, in which a group of students from Erbil Polytechnic University participated in an international activity alongside universities in Iraq, the United States, and Jordan for 8 weeks. The event, entitled Global Solutions Suitability Challenges, focused on finding a solution to a challenge by creating a product and introducing it to the labor market. The Erbil Polytechnic University-Shaqlawa Technical College team was able to maintain their stay and become the winner of the program at the Iraqi level, which was supervised by teachers (Sarwan Siddiq and Azhin Sabir) and under the supervision of Dr. Talib Mohammed Sharif Omar in this program.

Today, Sunday, April 28, 2024, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhamad Tahir Harki, the Rector of the Erbil Polytechnic University, and Dr. Talib Mohammed Sharif Omar, Dean of Mergasor Technical Institute, the 29th meeting of Arab universities to exchange training opportunities for students was held among Member Universities of the Arab Universities Union, hosted by Erbil Polytechnic University.

The meeting began under the supervision of the Secretariat General of the Union of Arab Universities and in the presence of several government officials, teachers of local and foreign universities, and students.

The 29th meeting of Arab universities will last two days, and tomorrow will be the last day of the meeting.
