The second commencement ceremony of Mergasor Technical Institute took place on Monday, December 2, 2024. The event was graced by the presence of H.E. Mulla Mustafa Barzani, Prof. Dr. Edrees Mohammed Tahir Harki (Rector of Erbil Polytechnic University), Dr. Talib Mohammed Sharif Omar (Dean of Mergasor Technical Institute), as well as several government and party officials.
During the ceremony, attended by the graduates’ families, several speeches were delivered, and technical diplomas were awarded to the graduates of the 2023-2024 academic year by the Dean of the Institute and the Rector of Erbil Polytechnic University.
A special highlight of the event was the presentation of the Mergasor Technical Institute Council logo by H.E. Mulla Mustafa Barzani to the top-performing students in both morning and evening studies. Additionally, awards for first, second, and third place were distributed by H.E. Mulla Mustafa Barzani’s office.

The first international teacher training course for capacity development was attended by Prof. Dr Idris Mohammed Tahir Harki, Rector of Erbil Polytechnic University; Dr. Botan Majid, Vice Rector for Scientific Affairs and Higher Education; Dr Talib Omer, Dean of Mergasor Technical Institute and Dr Ranj Sirwan, Director General of the University’s Scientific Research Center.
Training is aimed at further developing and enriching practical lessons in the field of education , and it is an opportunity for everyone to use their abilities to learn sciences.
The Training course was begun by addressing key note speakers’ speech including president Dr Primavera Monnarrez and Chancellor Dr Steven Bloomberg, and Vice -President Dr Thad Russel for more than 50 university teachers and more than 20 teachers, directors and supervisors of education of Soran Independent Administration, which will continue for three months under the supervision of teachers of Portville College in a professional manner.
The aims of the training is to create platforms and networks for educators to share best practices, resources, and research findings internationally.
Also to foster Cultural Empath and awareness among educators to promote a global perspective in education. International collaboration brings us together from different cultural, educational, and professional backgrounds. This diversity fosters the exchange of innovative teaching methods, strategies, and perspectives that can broaden our approaches to pedagogy/andragogy.
Building connections with educators worldwide expands professional networks significantly. These networks can lead to collaborative campus projects and institutional partnerships. Collaborative efforts enhance the quality of teaching and student collaborative projects and contribute to the global advancement of knowledge in various academic fields.
Mergasor Technical Institute and Porterville College in California have become sister colleges for enhancing international academic collaboration.
Mergasor Technical Institute has always tried to work to educate and serve all aspects of society through its academic relations.
Dean of Mergasor Technical Institute Participated in UNIMED General Assembly Alongside His Excellency Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhammad Tahir, the President of Erbil Polytechnic University (EPU),Dr Talib Omer, Dean of Mergasor Technical Institute participated in the UNIMED General Assembly held at Istanbul Aydin University on October 23-24, 2024. This two-day assembly brought together university presidents, professors, deans, government officials, and representatives from UNIMED’s network spanning 28 countries.
The event offered an invaluable platform for exchanging perspectives and establishing policies for UNIMED’s initiatives in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
It is noteworthy that EPU, as a member of the Mediterranean Union of Universities, received an official invitation to participate in this prestigious assembly in Turkey.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the delegation fostered collaborative relationships and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Istanbul Aydin University. 25/10/2024 Turkey

On Monday, September 23, 2024, President Nechirvan Barzani met with Mr. Halgurd Sheikh Najib, Supervisor of Soran Independent Administration and officials of the administrative units of Soran Independent Administration
In the meeting, Dr. Talib Mohammed Sharif Omar, Dean of Mergasor Technical Institute, was present as one of the officials of the region. Mr. President spoke about the progress and significant changes in the region and said that after the decision to be independent govern, Soran has seen many changes I am happy to see Soran with these changes. I congratulate the supervisor of the independent administration of Soran and all of you. The people of Soran deserve more. Soran has been the center of Kurdish revolutions.
For their part, the officials of the Soran Independent Administration thanked the President for his continuous support to their work.
