The U.S. Consulate said: “We were happy about the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education and university presidents of Kurdistan in the NAFSA conference.”

The U.S. Consulate General in Erbil showed its happiness about the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education and universities of Kurdistan in the NAFSA conference. Last week, a delegation made up of advisors from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, along with several university Rector from Kurdistan — including Dr. Idris Mohammed Tahir Herki, the Rector of Erbil Polytechnic University — joined the conference and the 2025 NAFSA Annual Exhibition. The event took place in Santiago, California, USA.

The U.S. Consulate General in Erbil mentioned this on its official Facebook page, saying: “We were happy to see the participation of the representatives from the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Higher Education and the universities of the Kurdistan Region at the American conference called NAFSA, which is the largest international conference focused on education in the world.”According to the statement from the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil, “The conference helped higher education officials to build relationships with colleges and universities in the United States and to discuss future cooperation and joint projects.”

At the same time, NAFSA also wrote about the Kurdistan delegation’s participation on its official Facebook page.

During the conference, the delegation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research had several important meetings with the NAFSA president and representatives from many American universities and educational organizations. These meetings focused on supporting higher education in the Kurdistan Region, especially in technical and vocational fields, developing skills, promoting sustainable development, and improving the effectiveness of academic programs and exchange of teachers and students.

Erbil Polytechnic University became a member of the UN Academic Impact network.

As a result of the continuous efforts of Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhamad Tahir Harki, the Rector  of Erbil Polytechnic University, to internationalize the university and gain international trust, Erbil Polytechnic University became a member of the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) network.

The United Nations, as a global organization, had many members from different countries and included many institutions and organizations in the fields of education, science, culture, and academic development. UNAI was one of those organizations, and it worked with 1,700 institutions in 156 countries to make academic impact through cooperation. Erbil Polytechnic University, as a higher education center in the Kurdistan Region, joined the UNAI network as a new member. It cooperated with the institutions of this organization to achieve the global goals of the United Nations such as peace, human rights, sustainable development, providing education opportunities for refugees and displaced people, and protecting the environment.

It is worth mentioning that Erbil Polytechnic University, in its strategic plan, worked on many of these UNAI goals, especially serving the community and protecting the environment, and took real steps toward them.

Erbil Polytechnic University and Middle Euphrates Technical University talked about doing a joint scientific conference.

Prof.Dr. Edrees Muhamad Tahir Harki, the Rector of Erbil Polytechnic University, welcomed a delegation from Middle Euphrates Technical University, led by Dr. Hassan Kazem Latif Zubaidi, the Rector of that university. In the meeting, Asst.Prof. Dr. Azad Hassan Qadir, Vice Rector  for Administrative and Financial Affairs, and asst. Prof Dr. Botan Majid Asinger, Vice Rector for Scientific and Higher Education Affairs, along with several members of the university council and heads of departments from both universities, were present. They discussed the steps to follow up on the agreement that was signed between the two universities in the middle of last February.

Also, during the meeting, they decided to hold a joint scientific conference. Both universities formed a team to talk in detail about how to organize the conference and began preparing for it.

 

At the Soran Technical College, International Mother’s Day was commemorated.

Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Edrees Mohammed Tahir Herki, Rector Erbil Polytechnic University, and on the occasion of International Mother’s Day and the anniversary of the founding of Soran Technical College, several activities were organized by the students of the Department of Women and Maternity. The Dean of Soran Technical College, assist. Prof.dr . Sirwan Latif Haji, and the assistant dean and members of the council attended the event.The dean gave a speech to congratulate the teachers and students of the department and wished them success, describing their work as a noble profession in service of mothers and children.

Later, Dr. Nergiz Ahmad Mohammed presented a speech about International Mother’s Day.The event was organized and led by the Head of the Women and Maternity Department, Mr. Azad Hussein, along with the students of the department, to honor this global day.
