The 29th Arab Universities Meeting hosted by Erbil Polytechnic University started its work

Today, Sunday, the 28th of April, 2024, in the presence of Prof. Edrees Muhamad Tahir Harki, the Rector of the Erbil Polytechnic University and Prof. Dr. Fawaz Ahmed Al-Zaghoul, the Director of the Arab Council, the 29th meeting of Arab universities to exchange training opportunities for students was held in the hall of the Cultural Center of our university that will last for two days.

In the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Abdulfatah Abdulrazaq, the Minister Deputy of the Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Erbil Governor Umed Khoshnaw, several Arab consuls, Mr. Ahmad Kani, member of the central committee of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Mr. Nechirvan Hussein Kalari, the Secretary of the Kurdistan Students Union of the Kurdistan Region, Vice Rectors, members of the Erbil Polytechnic University Council, Heads of Departments, teachers, and students were present.

After a moment of silence for the souls of the martyrs and listening to the anthem of the Iraqi Republic and the national anthem of the Kurdistan Region, several verses from the Holy Quran were read by Mulla Hawre.

Then his Excellency Prof. Dr. Edrees Harki, the Rector of the University, delivered a speech in Arabic in which he welcomed the guests and expressed his pleasure with the presence of the guests and delegations from Arab countries and called this a golden opportunity for students of the universities participating in the union. He said: “We are pleased to meet you today in the bosom of the Erbil Polytechnic University, in holding and organizing the 29th Conference for the Exchange of Training Opportunities between Arab Universities. This conference is part of our overall academic direction to develop the academic, cultural, social, political and other fields of our students, as well as to exchange training opportunities among Arab universities. The summer internship focuses on assessing our students based on their positive feelings in the work field, as well as the way they work with others, learning ability, self-confidence and sense of responsibility, skill development and students’ ability to build professional relationships. Despite their abilities to provide services to the surrounding community. They also develop their problem-solving skills and levels.

Today, universities around the world generally pay great attention to field internships, including our university, Erbil Polytechnic University, a vibrant and practical university in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, which has its own summer internship strategy. In this context, our university has paid great attention to sending students abroad, in addition to exchanging students in the field of training with national, regional and foreign universities.

The process of exchanging students in summer internships with international universities has many purposes, including cultural, social, educational and political purposes, as well as learning and becoming acquainted with the customs and traditions of nations and respecting them. That is to say, the exchange of students to participate in summer internships provides the opportunity to learn new and unique lifestyles and gain important experiences, as well as a positive impact on international relations and reduce tensions and conflicts in the world. and building sustainable bridges between nations, which helps to create new job opportunities in the world. In addition, the issue of student exchange has been linked to the issue of (internationalization of universities), as it is considered one of the indicators for ranking universities in many international classifications. Therefore, Erbil Polytechnic University pays great attention to summer internships and student exchanges with international universities through specialized programs in this field.

Then, the speech of the Arab Council was delivered by Prof. Dr. Fawaz Ahmed Al-Zaghoul, Director of the Arab Council and the speech of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research was presented by Prof. Dr. Abdulfattah Abdulrazzaq, the Minister Deputy, then the President of the Council of Universities of Arab Countries presented awards to the Ministry of Higher Education, Erbil Polytechnic University and the Governor of Erbil.

In another part of the ceremony, the ranking of the universities that were the best in training students in 2023 was read out and awards were presented to them.

Afterwards, several presentations and seminars were presented, including: An introduction on the cooperation of Russian universities by Dr. Bashir Samaha, an introduction on Arab organizations responsible for admission and registration by Prof. Dr. Bassam Lamhadin, the General Secretary of the organization.

After a short break, the guests and participants of the meeting visited the annual festival of students of the Erbil Technology College and expressed their admiration for the level of skills of our university students in carrying out their graduation projects and their scientific level.

Afterwards, two other seminars were presented by Prof. Dr. Redhwan Bin Rashid, the Cultural Director of Malaysia on the student’s internship in Malaysian universities, as well as an introduction on Unirax Foundation by Mr Sharif Al-Jad, Mr. Majdi Hussein, and Ms. Linda Qiblawi.

Later, the delegation and guests from Arab countries participated in the Kurdish folklore festival of Erbil Technical Administrative Institute, and finally visited the Erbil Castle and other ancient monuments.

The meeting is scheduled to continue on Monday at the Shaqlawa Technical College, where a seminar on how to exchange training opportunities, exchange of training opportunities between the participating universities, as well as the closing ceremony of the meeting management, executive committee and introductory program presenters).

In the presence of the University Rector, Erbil Technical Health and Medicine College arranged a job fair for graduates

On Thursday, the 25th of April, 2024, Erbil Technical Health and Medicine College arranged a job fair under the supervision and presence of Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhamad Tahir Harki, the Rector of the Erbil Polytechnic University.

In the exhibition, the Erbil Governor Umed Khoshnaw, the Minister Deputy of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Abdulfattah Abdulrazzaq, Dr. Diyar Jabari, the Head of Aso Regional Committee; Prof. Dr. Yousef Mustafa Rasul, the Vice Rector for Student Affairs and a significant number of teachers and students were present.

In a speech, Dr. Murad, the Dean of the Erbil Technical Health and Medicine College welcomed the guests and thanked them for their presence as a support for the students and participants, and thanked the Rector for his continuous support and assistance to the college.

The exhibition was organized with the aim of providing job opportunities for graduates in the campus of the Erbil Health and Medicine Technical College, several companies, hospitals and some private laboratories participated in it. At the end of the job fair, the rector and the participants congratulated the organizers and supervisors of the exhibition which was organized in a very orderly manner.

In the presence of the University Rector, Shaqlawa Technical College arranged a symposium on the importance of tourism sector

On Wednesday, the 24th of April, 2024, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhamad Tahir Harki, the Rector of the Erbil Polytechnic University, Dr. Afan Osman Hussein, the Secretary of the University Council and a significant number of academic staff and students, the  Shaqlawa Technical College in collaboration with the Capital Technical Institute Dr. Mohammed Shukri, the Chairman of the Investment Board, Dr. Abdulrahman Siddiq, the Chairman of the Environmental Protection and Rehabilitation Board.

The ceremony began with the national anthem of Ay Raqib. Then the Rector of the university delivered a speech. “once again, Shaqlawa has a special influence in addition to its historical importance that played an effective role in the liberation movement of the Kurdish people. We can say that the region is of special importance in terms of geography and agriculture, especially in plant production and animal production has an significant role, and more importantly, Shaqlawa is considered one of the most important cities in Kurdistan and Iraq in terms of tourism.

In another part of his speech, the Rector highlighted the influence of tourism in country’s development and introduced it as one of the most important sectors of the Kurdistan economy It was one of the cities that received the plan of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s tourism project and provided special services in the field of tourism.

Regarding the importance of Erbil Polytechnic University to the tourism sector, he said, “We have worked on the curriculum of the Shaqlawa Technical College according to the characteristics of Shaqlawa Therefore, we have opened a new scientific department in Erbil Polytechnic University for this academic year, which is the department of food quality Control in Harir district, which is suitable for the characteristics of the region. Shaqlawa Technical College has also worked on expanding the veterinary department, which now offers both diploma and bachelor’s degrees to students.

“We can say that Erbil Polytechnic University is one of the universities in the Kurdistan Region that follows the Bologna Process, which has been able to be the leader in the implementation of the Bologna Process. We hold annual workshops and meetings on how to change the curriculum to suit the labor market. Another important point is that we believe that universities are not only about providing knowledge and conducting scientific research, but also universities and academic educational centers must always be in constant contact with the society and always provide services to the society, to provide a healthy society, social equality and economic development to the society. We have worked on this kind of strategy and we will continue to serve our community. We hope that today’s symposium will be one of the works through which we can serve the tourism sector in Shaqlawa region.

Then the first panel entitled “The Role of the Government in Promoting and Linking Industry and Tourism” was presented by Dr. Mohammed Shukri, the Chairman of the Investment Board, Abdulrahman Siddiq, the Chairman of the Environmental Protection and Rehabilitation Board, and Mr. Amanj Younis, the moderator of the panel.

The second panel was presented entitled “The role of the academic centers and the government in creating entrepreneurship and promoting the tourism sector” for Mr. Kochar Azad Sadiq, Director of Career Development Centers in the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Hoshmand Rafiq, a lecturer of Salahaddin University in Erbil, and Mr. Rebaz Khalil Khurshed as the moderator of the panel.

At the end, the University Rector and Dean of the Shaqlawa Technical College presented awards to the directors and participants of the panels.

The Presidency of Erbil Polytechnic University awards several Volunteers

On Wednesday, the 24th of April, 2024, in the presence of Asst. Prof. Dr. Botan Majid Asngar, the Vice Rector for Scientific Affairs and Higher Education, in a ceremony a group of volunteered students have been awarded. These volunteered students had assisted the university’s activities, especially the two job fairs held last year.

In the ceremony Asst. Prof. Dr. Nageb Toma Bato, the former Vice Rector for Scientific Affairs and Higher Education; Dr. Heshu Rebwar, the Scientific Director of the Presidency of the University; and Dr. Rafah, a lecturer in the Erbil Technical Engineering College were present. Asst. Prof. Dr. Botan Majid Asngar delivered a speech in which he welcomed the volunteers on behalf of the Rector, and expressed his gratitude towards Asst. Prof. Dr. Nageb Toma Bato who supervised these volunteers in the project. He also thanked the Directorate of the Career Development Center (CDC). Finally, he thanked Dr. Rafah, who was responsible for supervising and recruiting the volunteer. He said: “Dear volunteers, “You really performed a humanitarian scientific work during that period whilst you are university students.

Dear students, university is not only a place where we meet with teachers in class every day and then quizzes, exams and lessons, but university is a place where culture is created. The more people look at us, the more highly regarded university students in society, because university is a place of knowledge, a place of science, a place of morality, a place of helping society to fill any gaps To do something without material benefits, without rank and position, without any interest, your only interest is to serve.”

Then, Asst. Prof. Dr. Nageb Toma Bato delivered a short speech thanking the University Presidency and Dr. Rafah and warmly appreciated the volunteers activities who have been very good collaborators of the university in the past in carrying out university activities and opening two job fairs, which in itself is a help to their friends and relatives who were students or graduates.

At the end of the ceremony, the certificates of appreciation were awarded to the volunteers.
