 About the Department (History):

Accounting Department was established in 2011 on request of Soran technical Institute association and approval of commission of Erbil technical study.

Our aim is bring up high quality graduates in accounting Department to fill the gap of deficit of accountant in public and private sectors.

Graduates after finishing 2 years of study in theoretical, practical and principles related to the field of accounting will get diploma degree.

 

After graduating students can work in public and private sectors, a work which goes with latest development of the world and accounting science.

 

Objectives:

  1. Create an environment and preparing students at high quality theoretical and practical in accounting specializations, which goes with development of this science and the needs of market in both public and private markets.
  2. To meet the needs of today’s complex markets, Accounting Department takes a multidisciplinary approach to the field, integrating finance and economics with broader perspectives on organizational issues and the business environment.
  3. It develops student’s practical and professional skills that are related to the field of accounting. It also provides them with professional ethics of the accounting and auditing.
  4. Introduce problems of financial accounting such as measuring and reporting issues related to assets and liabilities and preparing the financial statements. Students are expected to gain the ability of using accounting information as a tool in applying solutions for managerial problems and interpreting the financial structure.

 

  1. Strengthening the scientific relationship and technical links with other departments inside and outside the institute. Throughout exchanging opinions and experiences, for the purpose of developing the department.
  2. It provides all the department’s needs from teachers, course components of the institute curriculum, classrooms and all the technical equipment.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to take responsibility to work alone or to be an efficient member, or a leader of a team working on applied projects to develop innovative and creative approaches to solve problems in varying business contexts.
  4. It provides an environment in which students, Institute, and staff can thrive, and also pursues policies that enhance communication, mutual respect, cooperation, and trust.

 

General Learning Outcomes (GLO):

  • The student will be able describe, explain, and integrate fundamental concepts underlying accounting, finance, management, and economics.
  • Students will learn relevant financial accounting career skills, applying both quantitative and qualitative knowledge to their future careers in business.
  • Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of various advanced accounting issues related to Financial Accounting within a global and or ethical framework
  • Students will demonstrate the development of information technology skills, including: the Internet, Online Learning Management Platforms, Quick box software, accounting and online accounting homework systems.
  • Students will be able to applying auditing concepts to evaluate the conformity of financial statements with appropriate auditing standards.
  • Students will be able to apply critical-thinking, decision-making, and analytical problem-solving skills in an accounting environment.
  • Students will demonstrate competency in applying course knowledge to analyze and successfully solve course specific problems.
  • Students will demonstrate an ability to engage in critical thinking by analyzing situations and constructing and selecting viable solutions to solve problems.
  • Analyzing transaction data and tax authorities for purposes of tax planning.
  • Students will be able to analyze financial information to make decisions, estimate costs and determine tax implications, audit risk, and engagement procedures.
  • Students will be able to analyse financial reports and prepares budgets by using financial statements.
  • Students will be able to working effectively in diverse team settings.

Program Learning Outcome (PLO)

  • Students will be able to define and illustrate various cost terms and concepts and evaluate their relevancy for different decision-making purposes
  • Students will be able to identify and illustrate the primary activities and informational needs of managers, explain the role of the managerial accountant as a member of the management team, compare and contrast financial and managerial accounting.
  • Students will demonstrate an appropriate mastery of the knowledge, skills and tools of financial accounting principles and managerial accounting principles.
  • Students will demonstrate an appropriate mastery of the knowledge, skills and tools of intermediate and advanced financial accounting topics.
  • Students will demonstrate an appropriate mastery of the knowledge, skills and tools of auditing and systems.
  • Students will be able to apply computer skills and knowledge of accounting information system to support accounting function.
  • Students will be able to discuss knowledge of accounting and related field in an organization.
  • Students will demonstrate positive values, ethics and accountability with professional scepticism in engaging with society and stakeholders

 

 

 Minimum requirements for graduation programs include:

  • Degree from an accredited university with a GPA of 2.0 or higher on a 4.00 scale (50% or more)

Accounting Department believes progress of the country begins with good administration and management, accounting is a new science which is important part of developing our society and can have important role on administration.

Mission

Accounting Department wants to prepare graduates for successful career in the accounting profession, especially to close the gap of shortage of administrative accounting in Soran. Also to find the job in the public and private sectors for graduates after obtaining their degrees in the institute
