The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research presents awards to two students of Erbil Polytechnic University

On Tuesday, the 31st of January 2023, the Rector of Erbil Polytechnic University, Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhamad Tahir Harki, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Aram Mohammed Qadir presented awards to students of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) universities who participated in the Huawei ICT competition and won the second place in the Middle East.

In a meeting where the Deputy Minister, the Presidents of Erbil Polytechnic, Salahaddin and Lebanese French Universities, the representatives of Huawei in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the advisors and general directors of the Ministry were present the Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister received the students. He also congratulated the organizers of the competition for providing a suitable environment for the students to showcase their scientific abilities in the fields of information technology and communications.

It is worth mentioning that the participants of the competition in the Kurdistan Region consisted of students from the Erbil Polytechnic University(EPU), Salahaddin-Erbil University, and French Lebanese University (LFU). One team of the attendees won second place and the others could win the seventh grade. Four out of six students in both teams are students of the Kurdistan Regional Government universities.

Finally, Dr. Aram Mohammed Qadir presented prizes and the honorary certificates to the students attended the competition and expressed his gratitude towards the lecturers’ sincere working and the universities attended the competition.

Erbil Polytechnic University Rector Receives The Partners Of The Camplus Project

On Tuesday, the 31 January , 2023, the Rector of the University, Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhamad Tahir Harki received the partners of Erbil Polytechnic University in the Camplus project which consisted of seven international institutions from France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and Greece.

In a meeting where the Vice Rector for Scientific Affairs, the Director of the International Relations and officials and trainers of the project in our university were present, the Rector welcomed the delegation of the European partners in the Camplus project and expressed his pleasure for the cooperation and collaboration between our university and the European institutions He expressed the university’s readiness to work together to further serve Kurdistan’s youth, students and refugees in the camps.

It is worth mentioning that six academic staff of the Erbil Polytechnic University participated in a special course in Italy last year to become trainers.

This project is funded by the European Union and aims to help refugees and graduates of our university to develop their projects and create job opportunities for them.

Erbil Polytechnic University and WFP have launched a project to support and develop youth skills

To support and develop the skills of young people, in a special ceremony, Erbil Polytechnic University in collaboration with the World Food Program (WFP) opened a project for university graduates and refugee youth in the Kurdistan Region.

In the ceremony, which was held today Thursday, the 26th of January 2023 at the Cultural Center of the Erbil Polytechnic University, his Excellency Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhamad Tahir Harki, the Erbil Polytechnic University Rector, Dr. Amir Chali, the consultant of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Deputy President of the World  Food Program (WFP), a significant number of university lecturers and students were present. The ceremony began with a moment of respect standing for the souls of the martyrs.

In a statement, the university Rector, Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhamad Tahir Harki, after welcoming the guests, spoke about the role of the university and said: The duty of the university is not only to award degrees, but it is the leader and engine of society in all fields. Therefore, along with the educational process, the university is constantly trying to develop and support young people and create skills in different fields that young people are interested in. Our university Rector expressed his pleasure that the World Food Program has appointed our university to implement this important project. He assured that the Erbil Polytechnic University always opens its gate to implement similar projects to serve the community.

In another part of the ceremony, the Vice President of the World Food Organization (WFP) and the project implementation supervisor delivered speeches separately, in which they discussed in detail the objectives and different aspects of the project, how to select and appoint participants. Then, a panel was presented on the collaboration between the course and companies and how to implement the project.

150 people have participated in the Jassur project to support and develop the capacity of University alumni and refugee youth in the Kurdistan Region after several months of theoretical and practical participation in the project courses, the participants will be provided with job opportunities with the help of local companies.

Erbil Polytechnic University held a workshop on introducing the Young Cartographers Chapter

On Tuesday, the 24th of December, 2023, in the Cultural Center Conference Hall of the Erbil Polytechnic University, in the presence of the Vice Rector of the University, Asst. Prof. Dr. Nageb Toma Bato, Prof. Dr. Yousef Mustafa Rasul, the Erbil Governor Mr. Umed Khoshnaw, the Erbil Governorate Council Dr. Ali Rashid, the Consultant of the Transportation and Communications Minister Mr. Hastyar Asad, the Reconstruction General Director Mr. Hunar Nuri, the Dams General  Director Mr. Abdulrahman Khani, several members of the university council, lecturers, and experts, a workshop of introducing the EPU Youth-Mappers Chapter was conducted.

At the beginning of the ceremony, the Vice Rector delivered a speech on behalf of the Rector in which he welcomed the guests and talked about the importance of the project and considered it a modern need. He appreciated the hardworking of the project supervisors Mr. Muhamad Faisal and Ms. Glpa Ali Jukel for successfully accomplishing the project.

Then, Mr. Mohammed Faisal presented a seminar about the project and its history. He also explained that Youth Mappers consists of a group of students, researchers, and lecturers who use technology and available public data to identify and present the obstacles to the development of each country. University students around the world are actively participating in a publicly available program called the OSM Platform, in which students map the place where they live and in turn bring great benefits to their community. He also explained in detail the purpose and benefits of this chapter for Kurdistan in general, experts, government, organizations, companies and even ordinary people. He also explained the main purpose of opening this chapter in the Erbil Polytechnic University, which is to educate and develop the ability of our youth to lead and develop our country through mapping.

The second seminar was presented by Ms. Glpa Ali about how the student group worked in the project and showed their work, activities and projects that have been carried out throughout the academic year (2021-2022), as well as discussing the training that students have benefited so far.

Finally, Mr. Mohammed Faisal delivered another seminar in which he discussed in detail the events of the end of the year (2021) in Erbil Governorate that caused several losses of life and property due to floods and rainfall in several areas of the city Preparing for disasters and how to deliver support to affected areas during disasters, through this project, which is very useful.

Then the door of discussion was opened for the participants and their questions were answered. At the end of the workshop Asst. Prof. Dr. Nageb Toma Bato distributed honorary certificates upon the supervising teachers. Later, the Consultant of the Transportation and Communications Minister Mr. Hastyar Asad also awarded the honorary certificates were awarded to the participated students.

The EPU Youth Mappers Student Chapter consists of a group of students of the Erbil Polytechnic University who work globally to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of all countries by creating maps for where they live, to prepare and facilitate cases where natural and humanitarian disasters occur or have occurred It will be great for governmental and non-governmental institutions and humanitarian organizations.
