Nursing Department

The Department of Nursing at Koya technical Institute was established in 1996-1997 to provide diploma education in nursing. Since then, around 1100 students have been graduated until now. First batch of 34 students were graduated in 1998-1999. For the first time, in 2016 the evening session established. Today, the department offers both morning and evening session. Currently, around 400 students are studying in both session.

The Department has maintained academic expertise in the nursing practice. Over 9 lecturer are working at the moment to support health centers, clinical practice and both private and governmental hospitals.

Objectives

The objectives of our department provide clear statements of expected results, derived directly from Nursing Model, and reflect the school’s mission and vision.
The objectives are:

  1. Practice professional nursing within the Koya Technical Institute and Shahid dr.Khalid Teaching hospital.
  2. Demonstrate the use of critical thinking in clinical decision making.
  3. This subject is very important for students of Nursing department because via this science the students learning general information about fundamental information of nursing and nursing care for patients such as, how to collect data about patient’s vital signs, general and physical patient’s examination drug administration bed making.
  4. Education and improvement of health care for all.
  5. Engage in communication and collaboration with members of the health care team.

 

Student outcomes

  1. Synthesize theories and concepts from the arts and humanities and the natural and social sciences in professional practice.
  2. Apply critical thinking, decision making, and clinical reasoning skills in providing quality nursing care to individuals, families, groups, and communities.
  3. Translate research findings to provide evidence based practice of nursing.
  4. Will be able to provide nurse care and nurse processing
  5. Will be able to administrate all kind of administrations and vaccines.
  6. Apply principles of prevention and health promotion in providing care to individuals, families, groups, and communities.
  7. The graduates are able to work at both private and governmental hospital

Vision

The department of nursing, recognized for advancing in supportive and creative educational programs through the advancement of nursing practice and highest quality of patient care. The nursing program is one of the best programs in education, research, practice and service.

Mission

The mission of the Nursing Department is to prepare individuals for successful integration into the profession of nursing by providing students of nursing with an excellent theory-lead, evidence-based educational program with a focus on professional nursing standards, patient care, cultural diversity, community service, first aid, care of handicap and rural healthcare. Improving people’s lives through excellence in education, research and creative work, significant service and health care.
Another mission of the Department of Nursing is to create new generation of young, creative and professional nurses to serve the people of Kurdistan.
